Cushnie et Ochs
How exciting it was to be invited for the second time to the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Days held in the West City district of Zurich. I attended the event on Friday Nov 15th for the International Night and on Saturday for the closing night featuring Swiss designers. Though the craze did not match up to that of the Paris Fashion Week, it was still a real pleasure to watch other renditions of the trends for Spring-Summer 2014.
Friday night welcomed international designers Frankie Morello, Cushnie et Ochs, Marc Stone, Pepa Salazaralso and well-known fashion model Karlie Kloss. I had the privilege again this year to watch the show from the front seats. Two collections made a particularly strong impact.
The designers Maurizio Modica and Pierfrancesco Gigliotti of Frankie Morello presented an eclectic collection for the sophisticated woman. What I really liked was the sheer diversity of the styles in their creations. One moment, it was a cut-out skirt in silver glitter, then another, it would be a white embroidered top worn over a knee-length red skirt. They are the sort of look you can easily wear during the day and feel like a fashionista ready to be poached by street-style photographers.
Instead of playing with prints and colors, the designers Carly Cushnie and Michelle Ochs chose to stay with a one-color look and focused on the cuts. Cushnie et Ochs must have been proud that the supermodel Karlie Kloss wore one of their cut-out white dresses during the event. Over the past few years, skirt lengths have been either short or very long. But the runways are heralding a trend towards knee-length skirts, easily making us think about what our grandmas are wearing…. Somehow the designers are able to pull this off.
These two collections were opposed in style and spirit yet enjoyed the same resounding success! Watching such amazing display of designs whetted my appetite for the following closing night.
