It’s mid-week and time to give yourself a treat with a change of setting, like taking a micro-vacation. How about “travelling” to Spain with friends to share some tapas and wine? Then head out to Esquina Tapas Bar in a buzzling neighborhood with other hip coffee joints and restaurants, and surrounded by colonial buildings.
Esquina features a rustic and industrial-inspired interior. You can set yourself up at the bar counter facing the open kitchen, or go up to the second floor and take up one of the few tables in a softly-lit cocooning space. Or, you can go al fresco in the happening neighborhood. We went upstairs.
The beauty of tapas is that there are no rules – recipes are only limited by the chef’s imagination. The tapas here were refined with delightful combinations. My highlight was a grilled octopus with mushrooms and grilled onions. The octopus was succulent with a pleasant burnt taste. And yes, you can’t do tapas without wine. Big eaters do have to be careful though – Esquina serves gourmet food in small portion and it shows up in the bill…
