After a night in Ximending, I spent the rest of my stay at Amba Hotel SongShan Taipei. This latest addition to the Amba group is well-located with asimilar look and feel.
The Songshan district is less crowded with tourists but there are several attractions to keep you busy. A 2-min walk away from the hotel is Wufenpu fashion wholesale market where bargains abound. The alleys are packed with racks full of clothing and accessories at ridiculous prices. Also a short walk away is the popular Raohe Street Night Market. Build up your appetite to savor the street food. Then to work off the excess calories the next day, rent a bike (like what my friend and I did) and cycle along the Keelung river.
I simply love the modern and urban interior of the hotel. The reception, common area and restaurant have high ceilings while the big windows let innatural light to brighten up the place. The hotel manager Jeanie gave us a tour of the rooms, all of which have panoramic views over the city. I still think mine had the best view – of Taipei 101! More essentially, the hotel offers super clean rooms with comfortable beds. What’s more, there is a laundry room, water fountain and a gym. Or you can call up the reception to borrow a yoga mattress for practice in your room, or to borrow kid games to keep younger ones occupied. The breakfast buffet is just as amazing (don’t miss the scones!) as in Amba Hotel Ximending. The restaurant also do lunch and dinner, but you will want to head to the bar for an aperitif first.
The hotel pampered us with wonderful service which added to an impeccable experience. Perhaps the best compliment you can make about a hotel is that I felt at home during my stay.
