Elisa Kaufmann, Annabelle award winner and Jean-Charles de Catselbajac
I was invited once again to attend arguably the premier fashion event in Switzerland, the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Days Zürich (MBFDZ). I will share with you not only my impressions of the shows but also my experiences during the event as well.
I kick-started the MBFDZ at the Annabelle Award. There was guest-of-honor and judge, Jean-Charles de Castelbajac who delivered an address to the evening. The show started with Studiowinkler, winner over the past two years and whose designer outfit I wore for this evening. She was then followed by the five finalists: Elisa Kaufmann, Julia Seemann, Nathalie Lukasik, Nitya Unju Park, and Tosca Wyss. The designers showcased very eclectic styles but their collections all shared a sharp edgy originality.
Nonetheless, my eyes were caught by Elisa Kaufmann’s structured creations which emphasized colors (rather than patterns) and drapes and folds of the fabric. For some of her outfits, she daringly blended-in wooden pieces and accessories. She deservedly won this year’s award – Bravo! I was no less impressed by Julia Seemann‘s collection. She forged denim into structured pieces and mixed them with other fabrics. She was playful with lengths and cuts but did not include any close-to-body designs. Her oversized hat really killed it on the catwalk!
JC de Castelbajac closed the evening with his colorful collection set against the dynamic rhythm of electronic music. Not only were the designs splendid, the unusual choreography of having the models in two rows to face the public blew us off our seats!
Attending fashion shows is not only enjoyable experience, but also gives me an extra breath of inspiration for my styling ideas. I could hardly wait for what lay before us over the next two days!
