Sneakers Power

Laure Pachoud invited me last Wednesday to play stylist at their pop-up store in Lausanne (more about this experience in a separate post). For this guest appearance, I kitted myself with a mix of styles – retro seventies, chic notes and sporty vibes. The outfit consisted of La Halle fringed suede jacket, large cut shirt, skinny jeans and Adidas superstars. Let’s talk about the last item – sneakers, currently the hot fashion statement.
These days, sneakers are seen on all (teenagers and adults), everywhere (from workplace to red carpet events) and at any time (including evenings). We love them for their comfort and anti-serious dress code. Intended as functional sports shoes, they are now worn in ways that would have been considered the worst fashion faux-pas. Not surprisingly, designers are not leaving them alone but making them edgier with such touches as gold details or patent leather. Nicolas Ghesquière did his magic in his Louis Vuitton cruise collection showcased in Palm Spring ten days ago. Who could have guessed it – sneakers have come of age to the forefront of luxury!
