Choux, Amsterdam

I was back at one of my favorite cities, Amsterdam. There is so much to like: charming setting (architecture, canals, and interiors), friendly people, and great food! I am adding to Blaast Places a restaurant curiously named Choux (cabbage in French!). Recommended by a friend, the place is a little out of the city center but still easily reached by bicycle. You can’t miss the building painted in screaming red. On entering you are quickly taken in by its cosy atmosphere with low lights, warm shades and Scandinavian style decor. We arrived just past noon to have lunch (though apparently it is better to enjoy dinner here). As we were about to order, the waitress pointed out the owner’s special attention to its wine selection. I was not sure if it had been intended as a sales pitch, but it worked. I got tempted by a glass of Red Rioja (out of the huge menu) to go with my fresh mushroom omelette garnished with parsley. My friends also ordered only a main with wine. Our meals were quite simple and exactly what we wanted for a light tasty lunch. Would a 3-course dinner been an even more seductive proposition? Well, there is only one way to find out…
